Do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. Sometimes with a job the way is also simple as that. Encouraging SP participants to talk freely about their strengths and areas for development during an interview simulation is a great way for diminishing stress and preparing for the unknown and unexpected – HR specialists.
To be done:
INDIVIDUALLY, IN PLENARY
Developing presentation skills, confidence in talking about own strengths and expectations.
This excersise follows the previous one entitled ‘Senior Pass competency framework – My competencies in SP’ and description of ideal work placement. From 20 chosen competencies participants should choose three more that are related to the workplace applied for. Another two skills to be chosen from the general list of e-Portfolio skills. With confidence participants should tell about the useful skills they possess relevant to the job they would like to get and another to skills describe as these that they would like to develop while working for a company/organisation of their choice.
MATERIALS AND RESOURCES NEEDED:
Lists of competencies from SP e-portfolio, a pen, paper to write down reflections and ideas.
STEP BY STEP PROCESS:
1. Explaining the task
2. Writing down the description of an ideal work placement
3. Individual presentation in front of the group ( participants and trainer are acting as HR specialists)
4. Individual feedback delivered by the facilitator.
5. Summary of the excersise.
Participants confidently presenting their strong sides and persuading ‘employers’ that they are motivated to develop in assigned tasks.
Participants were quite confidently presenting their strong sides and focused on less developed areas not as weaknesses but things that they would like to improve. They felt more confident using modern terms and expressions present in the e-Portfolio. It has been evaluated as motivating and useful, not very hard.
NOTES FOR FURTHER USE:
It is very important to engage other participants into this excerise, so that they could learn the employers perspective too.
